Goals and Objectives
Kusi Kawsay has a spectacular piece of land at the base of the Pisac archeological site. Construction began August 12, 2009 and we have made much progress. We were able to receive 92 students at our new school this year 2011 in K – 7th grade! Very exciting! We have 7 full time teachers, 2 full time teacher assistants and several workshop specialists.

We aim to serve as a pilot project to inspire other schools to follow this method with the goal of providing an exceptional high quality education with access to the most updated teaching advances while honoring and celebrating traditional ways of life.
We are working on producing educational material for use by other schools in Peru or any other schools who wish to teach a section on Andean life.
Our most urgent need is to secure salaries for our excellent group of teachers and specialists. We are working with a professional advisor to create a sustainable fundraising strategy to assure Kusi Kawsay’s future.
Our goal is to close the 2011 budget gap that is currently at $7,000 and begin securing funds for 2012 before we continue construction.
We also need to secure salaries for our excellent group of teachers and specialists.
Construction
Construction began in August! We need support to continue!
Our first phase goal includes the infrastructure and implementation of 6 schoolrooms, 2 kindergarten schoolrooms, 8 bathrooms, a water system, an administration area, a caretaker house and a recreational area. This total cost is $101, 580.
Thanks to amazing support we have completed a great portion of the infrastructure.
- Five classrooms and a new kindergarten are complete, with their corresponding bathrooms. We have first grade in one classroom, 2nd & 3rd in a multi grade classroom, 4th & 5th in a multi grade classroom, 6th grade in a classroom and 7th grade in a classroom.
- Our bio digester septic system is ecologically friendly.
- Extensive terrace work has been completed, with one last section almost finished. It is beautifully done, with stone pathways and stairways.
- The administrative area/teacher’s lounge is located in the building that existed on the land.
Our construction needs are to build the 6th, 7th and 8th grade classrooms to remedy overcrowded classrooms and repair the water holding reservoir to assure clean water and irrigation for our agricultural program.
Once the classrooms through 8th grade are complete we plan to continue building a kitchen area, library, implemented workshops, an audiovisual auditorium and a museum / store. This will proceed once we have stabilized our economic situation and have a sustainable fundraising strategy that assures the annual operating cost.
